The following families have a modified English name:

Family: Procellariidae – Petrels, Shearwaters, Diving Petrels

Family: Tyrannidae – Tyrant Flycatchers, Calyptura

Family: Vireonidae – Vireos, Greenlets & Shrike-babblers

Family: Fringillidae – Finches, Euphonias

Family: Cardinalidae – Cardinals, Grosbeaks and (Tanager) Allies


286/1598    Grey Noddy

has had its species epithet amended. Its scientific name is now:

Anous albivitta


Family Campephagidae – Cuckooshrikes has been re-defined and re-sequenced. As part of this review, the following species have been assigned to new or different genera:

636/5761    Palau Cicadabird    Edolisoma monacha

636/5762    Yap Cicadabird    Edolisoma nesiotis

636/5763    Pohnpei Cicadabird    Edolisoma insperatum

636/5757    Mauritius Cuckooshrike    Lalage typica

636/5758    Reunion Cuckooshrike    Lalage newtoni


The families in Part 12 of the IOC bird list have been re-defined and re-sequenced. The following species:

981/9467    Spotted Towhee    Pipilo maculatus

has been assigned to the newly defined family Passerellidae – New World Sparrows.
