Free ATWB eBooks
In early 2026, and for reasons known only to itself, Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) decided to remove all of my eBook titles from the Kindle Book Store. There was no explanation as to why and so very little opportunity to appeal against this ruling.
BUT, the good news is that I am now able to offer these former KDP titles for FREE!
Starting April 1st 2026, I shall forward any title in the COUNTRY GUIDES series and any title in the INTERACTIVE CHECKLISTS series of ATWB eBooks to your Kindle reading device at no charge.
The delivery mechanism will use the ‘Send-to-Kindle’ feature. This employs a conversion program that prepares the contents of ATWB Word documents for your Kindle reading device.
In my experience, the conversion program always reproduces the content and functionality of internal and external links exactly as intended. However, the formatting of the text rarely exactly matches the original, with the colours of some internal/external links likely to be changed. Also, none of the ATWB companion guides sent to your device will have a specially designed cover page, as was previously included when they were available to purchase as a KDP title from the Kindle Book Store.
To take advantage of this free offer, you will need to provide the email address that can be used to send documents to your Kindle reading device. Here’s how to find it:
- Sign in to your Amazon account.
- In the drop down menu ‘Account & Lists’ click on ‘Manage Your Content and Devices’.
- At the top of the page select ‘Preferences’.
- Scroll down to Personal Document Settings.
- Under the sub-heading ‘Send-to-Kindle E-Mail Settings’, find and make a note of the email address associated with the device you want to use for receiving ATWB companion guides. [Note: you have the ability to edit this email address, if you wish to do so.]
- Note also that if you have more than one registered Kindle reading device, you will be able to transfer any ATWB eBooks to your other devices using the ‘Manage Your Content and Devices’ features of the Amazon website. [Click on ‘Docs’ on the Digital Content page to view the titles.]
OK. You’re all set now to send me a ‘Request to be able to Place an Order’. See the Ordering Your Kindle eBooks page for instructions on how to contact me.
Assuming you have been successful in making contact, I will send you a source email address [xxx@yyy.co.uk] that will be used to send the eBook(s) of your choice to your Kindle reading device. Here’s how to set up your device to enable you to receive documents sent from that email address:
- Sign in to your Amazon account.
- In the drop down menu ‘Account & Lists’ click on ‘Manage Your Content and Devices’.
- At the top of the page select ‘Preferences’.
- Scroll down to Approved Personal Document E-mail List.
- Click on ‘Add a new email address’, enter the source email address [xxx@yyy.co.uk] into the pop-up box and select Add Address.
Right. Now you’re all set to place your first order. See the Ordering Your Kindle eBooks page for instructions on what to do next.
After you have received your ATWB Kindle eBooks, please revisit this page and make sure you read through and understand the points below:
Points to remember
- ATWB eBooks are based on the AviList. The AviList is updated once a year. 2026 ATWB eBooks are based on AviList v2025. 2027 ATWB eBooks will be based on AviList v2026.
- When you receive an ATWB eBook on your Kindle reading device, it will have an issue number. All 2026 ATWB eBooks are starting off at Issue 2, to distinguish them from the previous Issue 1 eBooks that were available to be bought from Amazon.
- ATWB eBooks are continually being refined to be more accurate. Changes arising from this exercise are being fed into the next series of ATWB eBooks (i.e. the 2027 series). However, occasionally an error may be detected that warrants a change being made to one or more of the current series. When this occurs, the affected eBooks are up-issued (e.g. from Issue 2 to Issue 3).
- If an ATWB eBook from the current series that has already been delivered to your Kindle reading device is up-issued, the new version of that eBook will automatically be delivered to your device.
- For the 2027 series only: when an ATWB eBook from the 2026 series that has already been delivered to your Kindle reading device is re-published as a 2027 series eBook, the 2027 edition of that eBook will automatically be delivered to your device.
- For the 2028 series and beyond: if you require the re-published editions of any ATWB eBook that has already been delivered to your Kindle reading device, from the 2028 series onwards you will need to place an order for those editions, in the same way as you did for the original delivery to your device.
- And finally, remember that if you have more than one registered Kindle reading device, you will be able to transfer any ATWB eBooks to your other devices using the ‘Manage Your Content and Devices’ features of the Amazon website. [Click on ‘Docs’ on the Digital Content page to view the titles.]
I hope the ATWB eBooks that you order will help you better appreciate and discover the bird species that are regularly present in various parts of the world. If so, please pass on information about the free Kindle eBooks and this website to your birding colleagues.
